I Agree with: Awesome Pictures

3 pictures I love. And, the stories behind them (ish).

The London Zoo has created a custom-built enclosure to display what it feels like to be an animal in the zoo. The goals is to show the effect humans have on the environment.

An 11-year-old boy was struck by an arrow, IN HIS EYE, and survived. (The arrow sunk over 4 inches into his head!)

Residents at Catholic Homes Corpus Christi stay fit by taking up fencing. The coolest thing about this - it is not a joke they are real-live-old-people.

I Agree: with creative business models...

I Agree: with creative business models...

I came across a company today that is doing the quality and type of work I want EPIC doing. The company's name is Box of Crayons...(they had me at crayons) and the company is made up of consultants, who help large companies revise the way "doing business" is viewed.

What most excited me about the consulting company was their values:

"Create Impact. Have Fun. Pursue Elegance. Tread Lightly. Be Generous."

I believe their focus on "Pursuing Elegance" most stired me. I want to produce works that are Elegant. Not just pretty and not overly stark, but Elegant. I hope one day people will look back and say EPIC was all of these things. And, today at least, I really hope they can define the work we do as Elegant.

That people will one day say more than Joe Jones did a good job playing a silly character or developing a cool graphic. But, rather they will say that EPIC helped create and impact, in a fun way, that EPIC's teams was generous with their creativity and knowledge, and maybe (if I'm lucky) people will also say. The designs EPIC made, the videos EPIC shot, were Elegant.

But, until we hit elegant, I do love the latest set of graphics we've created for Crossroads camp this summer. ;)

I Agree With: Zach Morris ( & Jimmy Fallon by association)

I Agree With: Zach Morris (& Jimmy Fallon by association)

Jimmy Fallon, had Zach Morris on his show. Not, Mark Paul Gosselaar, but Zach Morris on his show. I was up in the air on whether I liked Jimmy Fallon. That is no longer the case. Thanks for sharing this Mono.

I agree with: Paper Planes

I Agree with: Paper Planes

I made this video almost a year ago. It's one of the first videos, I made that I felt came out the way I wanted.

I Agree with: Being Confused with my job.

I Agree with: Being Confused with my job.

A friend of mine noted today that she can never explain what I do for work. She's tried several times to explain it to people but just ended up more confused herself.

I completely understood her frustration. I feel that way too. Whenever I describe what I do with EPIC, 75% of people respond in 1 of 2 ways.

A.) When I say I'm the director of operations for a small multi-media marketing firm and manage a small speakers bureau and student development firm, people think I am either lying or seriously exaggerating (to try and look cool).

or

B.) I try to break it into smaller parts and explain how each aspect functions, and then the person looks at me with a painfully confused frown. I then get the privilege of remembering how I felt losing in the first round of my elementary spelling bee. (shout out to Brian Regan)

So, I wanted to post a video of a song I recently wrote that was used in a local church's video to show people that even though it might be difficult to explain what I do - I do have a job, we are productive, and I will be the first to admit that doing this is really hard, and we're not making crazy bank (money).

I drive a 96 Jetta with engine problems - I am still too broke to be cool. But, we are doing everything we can to build something that will be great one day. Moreover, not only am I am not lying or trying to be cool, we're doing it on our own because we want to do something that produces great work while giving us a little creativity to live the values and morals we speak and preach about.

Enjoy the video and my poverty at your leisure.
